Off Menu Colnago C68

We don’t have a set menu. We offer no happy hour discounts. You know because we’re a bike shop.

But sometimes the Overlord gets invited to collaborate on someone’s dream bike build and sometimes that involves a little off menu ordering.

For this amazing pasta bike, the paint was all off menu. Thankfully, VéloColour was available with the assist. Once the paint was locked in, it was a simple matter of components and wheels.

It’s seems obvious that a pasta Chef looking to build a one of a kind Colnago C68 would want Campagnolo for this full Italian bike. Campy released the new Super Record 13s and paired with Campy Bora Ultras it was the perfect addition to this build.

Let’s take a moment to talk about VéloColour. We’ve been lucky enough to have worked with them on a number of projects. And though they make it look easy- making rideable art is hard.

Their attention to detail doesn’t end with the amazing paint design, it’s a part of every aspect of the rider experience. A thing that mechanics know about Italian bikes, especially white painted, is that there are so many layers of white paint and those layers get into places you don’t necessarily want them- bottom bracket area, drop outs, headset bearing seats.

But this white Italian bike came back from VéloColour just perfect. No overspray, no need to scrape away excess or make things work. It might be because they ride bikes, but I think it’s because they take each project as seriously as the rider does. They know they’re facilitating the love between the rider and their bike.

In this case, I’m a little in love with the build too.

More about me

Full disclosure, I’m not authorized to give away Michelin Stars. Apparently there’s a whole process that revolves around whether a restaurant is a destination onto itself.

This project was for a new client who lives out of state. This means that both nice bike and their own nice bike were worthy of a trip- a special journey if you will- which in Michelin terms means 3 stars.

I didn’t award it to this build, it met their terms all on it’s own. Our first three star bike.
