When you are young, universal fears include things like the dark, spiders and snakes. But we have grown, and now universal fears include things like brain tumors, cancer, and corona virus.
Another slightly less well- known fear is brain cancer. A disease that is both cancer and a neurological disorder. The intersection of two universal fears all rolled up into one. One that has lasting impacts and has a perfect score. We have no way to win this battle. We have few weapons to help us on the way. Instead we have something that scares us all, and limited options to prolong life.
What we do have? Five current drugs and one device, for the last 30 years. And now, we have 7 new drugs in clinical phase 3 testing.
What we do have? More people who know what this boogeyman looks like, and what it will take to learn about it.
What we do have? Resources like the National Brain Tumor Society fighting the battle with politicians to allocate funds for the research we (through the DMHC) raise money for, research that has helped get 7 new drugs a step closer to helping patients.
Who do we have? Emily Zimmermann, brain tumor survivor and warrior, sharing her message and supporting the 2020 Dura Mater Hill Climb virtual edition. Please enjoy the short video she created for us that we will be sharing on social media and perhaps elsewhere.
What do we need? You. Join us and the Dura Mater Hill Climb 2020 in raising awareness and funds, in raising spirits and hope.
