The Overlord, our David, is prepping to leave the country for three weeks to participate in a pre-Tour de France Tour! Nice Bike will be closed while David is away, from 6/23/17- 7/18/17.
This is the third year he is getting to do this ride and each year the route changes a little. Last year’s highlights included summitting Mont Ventoux and Tourmalet. This year they will spend a little more time in the Pyrenees.
But the thing that the Overlord is really looking forward to is seeing the custom painted Colnago C60 meet the professional rider that inspired it. Johan Museeuw won the Paris-Roubaix on a Mapei edition C40. The Overlord attempted to recreate that winning bicycle on a brand new C60. The C60 was stripped down and repainted to match the C40 Mapei paint. The seat post, stem, and wheelset (Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayers) were all sent out with the frame to be painted. VeloColour in Canada matched the original C40 Mapei race edition perfectly! With just one minor change to the paint, where it said C40, this bike says C60.
The details on this bike are just the icing on the perfectly painted cake. The bar tape is the same cork blue Colnago tape that the C40 bars were wrapped in, located in an Italian stash on ebay. The handlebars, stem, and seat post are all MCFK out of Germany. The chain, with those lovely blue highlights, is one of the lightest available- KMC’s XL11SL. The Overlord’s incredible cycling knowledge was able to ensure the mix of components were all compatible with each other.
For some symmetry, the C60 uses Shimano’s new Dura Ace 9150 and gum walled Vittoria tires as the C40 was outfitted with both Dura Ace and Vittoria tires. The C60’s crank and brakes both come from THM. The brakes, THM fibula, were upgraded with Tune carbon pad holders. While the crank is THM clavicula with Carbon Ti 34/48 custom rings. CeramicSpeed supplied coated bottom bracket as well as the oversized pulley system. The oversized pulley system allowed for a SRAM 11/36 cassette.
Now we can only wait and hope that Johan Museeuw is as impressed with this bicycle as we are, and feels like autographing it!
We will let you know how it goes when the shop reopens on Wednesday July 19th!
